Hi! We're Marie and Michael Porter, a couple of middle-aged nerds living in Ontario, Canada.
Our first experience with an RV was in 2018. We were in the process of moving from Minneapolis to Ontario, and had some logistical issues to deal with - Selling the house there, Porter dealing with a week of finals in another state, moving our cats as safely as possible, AND having somewhere to live, as we looked for a new house upon arrival.
Buying a used motorhome seemed like a simple solution to all of those problems - we moved into it while we staged and sold the house, drove it - along with the cats - to North Dakota for Porter to write his finals.
We drove it to Canada and set up in a camp ground while we looked for our new house, and we found one - with a big enough driveway for the RV.
We had a lot of fun with that RV. We'd named it "Ziggy" - a Quantum Leap reference - and spent a lot of time customizing it to our needs. It was super cute and super functional!
Unfortunately, life got in the way after buying the house. Maintaining an RV we weren't using was getting too expensive - both in time and space - and we made the decision to part ways with Ziggy.
We found what we thought were good buyers for it, and they invited us to follow their adventures on Facebook.
... Almost immediately, they ended up ripping one of the air conditioners off the top (they didn't pay attention to clearance heights!). It was painful to watch them destroy our beautiful truck, and we've regretted the sale ever since.
After 2020 happened... and 2021... and 2022... we realized that we weren't getting any closer to being able to take vacations like we used to, in a safe and healthy manner.
So, we bought another used RV - one very similar to Ziggy, but as-yet unnamed.
We've had some fun updating it, customizing it, and dolling it up, and now we're ready to EXPLORE!
The first year or so we lived in Ontario, we were too busy to really explore our surroundings, and then circumstances got in the way. Now, we're free to see all kinds of new places!
And here we are, with a brand new blog.
Expect to see some great camping recipes, DIY tutorials, travel photos, and reviews.
Mostly, just expect we'll be having a lot of fun together - and together with our cats - and we'll bring you along, in a manner of speaking!
